The ViBe Creative District Utility Box Artwork program is inspired by similar programs nationwide. In Virginia Beach, a pilot project to wrap 10 traffic ops boxes with digitally printed artworks was first permitted in 2019. Based on the success of this low-cost and low-maintenance public art project, a second installment was permitted in 2022 to add an additional 5 artworks.

The City of Virginia Beach and Department of Cultural Affairs support and endorse this creative use of public space in the ViBe Creative District which creates FUN-ctional artworks to beautify the neighborhood, create a sense of place in the arts district and to avoid graffiti.
Digital artworks professionally printed and installed by professional contractors of The Graphics Shop in Chesapeake, VA.
