CALLING ALL TEEN MURALISTS Ages 16-18

WHAT IT IS:

The ViBe Mural Festival by was created by our nonprofit in 2018 with the ambitious goal to add 10 Murals in 10 Days by 10 Artists!  We thought it sounded fancy but also possible to accomplish-why not!? Since then, 53 murals have been added to our neighborhood through this fun, community building event, several of which were interactive to engage the public. The streets come alive in our museum without walls when the 10 artists perform their street art painting live for the public to see. These murals are a vital place-making tool for the ViBe Creative District, and we can proudly report that our online Google Map have over 505,000 views of the murals and other public artworks— PEOPLE ARE ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR THE ARTS DISTRICT AND MURALS! Additionally, we print approximately 100,000 hard copy walking maps every other year to share with the public when they are in Virginia Beach or planning their trips here.

HOW IT WORKS:

• Step 1- Enter our database and submit images of your best works to date. ViBe will select 1 TEEN Muralist in the ages of 16-18. First time muralists are welcome! All selected artists will be paid to participate.
• Step 2- ViBe will share your images with all 10 property owners who will each create a short list of 3-5 artists they like. Artists are reviewed and ranked by the property owner and ViBe starts at the top of each list to contact artists to confirm if they are willing and able to paint for the 6th Annual ViBe Mural Festival August 18-27, 2023. Artists must be available at a minimum of 8 or the 10 days to complete their mural and participate in festival programing.  All selected artists will be paid to participate.
• Step 3- Once an artist is selected, they meet virtually or in person with the property owners to talk about the wall, the business location and just things they like in common. The artist then provides a detailed sketch to the owner for a first look at the concept. After the owner provides feedback and edits, the artist completes a final, full color rendering for the owner and shares it with ViBe.
• Step 4- Once the artist, property owner and ViBe all agree on the mural concept, the ViBe nonprofit handles the zoning approvals, permitting, special event insurance, equipment rentals, programming of the festival, etc. The artist is responsible for selecting and purchasing their paint and disposable materials for painting the mural– a reimbursement is provided.
• Step 5- The artist and property owner sign contract prior to the festival. Then, all 10 artists show up August 18-27 to the ViBe Creative District to paint and participate in festival programming. It is an amazing experience for everyone involved and an incredible gift to our Virginia Beach creative community. Artists are paid at the completion of their murals. Compensation varies dependent on the scale of the wall– all of which is discussed and agreed upon prior to the event.
