CALL TO ARTISTS: Year 5 Loaned Art Program

Purpose:

Exhibit art from local artists, to provide Hope, Healing, and Resiliency for all caregivers, visitors, patients, and staff at the Sentara Brock Cancer Center.
Sentara Brock Cancer Center is looking for multiple framed works of wall art by regional (Mid-Atlantic) artists to display in the Kay Stockwell Lobby and other common areas of the
Sentara Brock Cancer Center. There is also one vitrine for a 3D work (sculpture, glass work, etc.) Dimensions below.

Timeline:

Artwork will be chosen by jury process, and will remain on loan and displayed at Sentara Brock Cancer Center for a period of one year; May 1, 2024, through April 30, 2025.

Artist Honorarium:

Each selected artist will receive a $500 honorarium from the Sentara Brock Cancer Center.

Project Site:

The SBCC contemporary glass and stone building was designed to support excellence in health and healing. Contemporary furnishings embellish a light-filled interior,
including adjacent Healing Garden and fountain. Artists should consider the dialogue between the architecture and the artwork to complement the building, its purpose, and most importantly, the patients.

Theme:

Images that convey Hope, Healing, and Resiliency will be appropriate. Examples include, but are not limited to, images of nature, water, life.

Specifications:

● Artwork must be ready to hang. Wall spaces are depicted below. Dimensions for artwork range from 18” x 24”, to 42” x 60”. Larger artwork is encouraged and can also
be accommodated.
● One 3D work of art will be accepted. The work will be housed in a museum quality vitrine. Interior vitrine dimensions are; base: 26” x 28” Interior height: 31” high One vitrine for 3D work

Display:

Artwork will be displayed in the common areas of the Cancer Center, with average traffic of 700 visits per day. SBCC will provide an artist information tag beside each piece
complete with artist’s name, title of work, medium, website information, and contact information. Should you choose, artwork may be offered for sale. All artwork (including sold artwork) will remain on the premises for one year during the period of the Loaned Art Program. Artwork will be professionally hung with security hooks, but artwork must be ready to hang with a sturdy frame that will support the security hardware. No reimbursement will be provided for shipping, delivery or pickup.

  • January 2024 Open Call to Artists published
  • March 1, 2024 Online Submission deadline
  • Late March 2024 Artists notified
  • Thursday April 18 & Friday 19, 2024 Artwork drop off to Sentara Brock Cancer Center
  • April 2025 Artwork returned to artist

Selection Criteria:

Artwork will be chosen by jury process, based on their appropriateness with the theme of the Sentara Brock Cancer Center, and artistic merit.

Deadline:

The deadline for submissions is Friday March 1, 2024.
