Holiday ViBes

The ViBe Creative District placed an open call for 20 teen artists to participate in a custom painted ornament challenge to walk next to the ViBe Parade Float at the 2023 Holiday Parade at the Beach! Teens dressed in festive attire and painted their ornament to carry in the parade. Teen artists ranged from 14-18 and be enrolled in Virginia Beach school or home schooled at a high school level. Selected teens were paid an artist stipend of $200 to cover their time painting their ornament and marching in the parade. Immediately following the parade, the teens’ artwork was displayed in the ViBe Creative District. The Holiday ViBes public art display includes artworks representing 41 teens from a dozen schools who submitted artwork in 2022 and 2023 for a month-long exhibit of public art at the corner of 21st Street and Parks Avenue. This area is the 264E exit and gateway to the resort. The teens’ art helps to create a sense of arrival, a sense of place and a festive artistic experience in the ViBe Creative District. This educational art opportunity is funded in part by the Virginia Commission of the Arts, NEA Arts, and the Virginia Beach Arts & Humanities Commission.
