CALLING ALL TEEN ARTISTS – Join ViBe for the Holiday Parade at the Beach

The ViBe Creative District is seeking 20 teen artists to participate in a custom painted ornament challenge to walk next to the ViBe Parade Float on Saturday, Dec 3! Teens will need to dress in festive attire and paint their ornament to carry in the parade– the wooden ornament cut-out will be provided. Teen artists must be enrolled in a Virginia Beach High School.

ARTIST STIPEND:

Selected teens will be paid an artist stipend of $200 to cover their paint supplies and presence during the parade. Teens must purchase their own paints to complete this project. Teens will be provided a lighted Santa Hat and Christmas bulb necklace to wear during the parade.

COMMITTMENT FROM TEEN ARTISTS:

• Teens will apply online to submit a sketch (digital or colored by-hand with colored pencils or marker) of their proposed ornament artwork by the deadline Wednesday, Nov 16th at midnight. DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FRI, DEC 18th AT NOON.
• Selected teens will be asked to pick up a wooden ornament shape in the ViBe District on Sunday, November 20 or Monday, November 21 and will paint the ornament by hand with their own original design no later than Dec 2. The wooden ornament shape which is approximately 36 inches in diameter is provided. Teens must purchase their own paints but will received a stipend of $200 after walking in the parade on Dec 3.
• Teens will bring the painted ornament to the Holiday Parade lineup area on Saturday, Dec 3rd no later than 4pm to line up to walk in the 530pm parade next to the ViBe Creative District float. Total time commitment on Saturday, Dec 3rd is expected to be 4pm-8pm– The parade begins at 530pm, teens must arrive early to line up and will stay until parade ends and ornaments are collected.
• At the completion of the parade, all teens will be provided a $200 artist stipend check from the ViBe Creative District.
• All teens will turn in their ornaments immediately following the parade so that the ornaments can be on exhibit in the ViBe Creative District from December 5-Jan 5 as part of a holiday public art display.

On Saturday, December 3, at 5:30 pm, join us for the Holiday Parade at the Beach, where almost 90 parade units make their way down Atlantic Avenue in a joyous celebration of the holiday season. Giant balloons, marching bands, lighted floats, equestrian units, fire trucks, performing dance groups, motorcycles, and more join forces to present a dazzling and entertaining night of fun for all ages!

And, best of all, Santa himself makes a grand appearance to greet all his loyal fans as the evening winds down and thousands of families take the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Virginia Beach oceanfront!

The parade travels north on Atlantic Avenue from 15th Street to 25th Street. The reviewing stand is located at 25th Street and Atlantic Avenue.
