18th St Fence Mural Project Application

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

**Before you start: It is very important that you contact us before you begin to ensure acceptance!**

1. Contact Kate Pittman at 757-202-9533 or by email for space availability. Artists may qualify for a materials reimbursement allowance on an as needed basis. Space is granted as available, pending content approval. Mural description and/or sketch required for approval.

2. Plan content that is appropriate and family-friendly. No profanity, nudity, gang symbols, political content or anything that may be deemed offensive by the general public. Limited wording allowed.

3. All murals must be made on plywood or MDF board measuring 8 feet wide and 4 feet tall (one solid sheet of plywood). Each mural should take up a single space between two fence posts.

4. Artist is responsible contacting Kate with ViBe to coordinate hanging to determine placement on fence. Wood screws must be used—no nails, staples, etc—for security and safety of the artwork.

I acknowledge that by completing and securing hanging my mural on the 18th Street Fence:*
- My artwork/image become property of the ViBe Creative District for promotional use of the ViBe Creative District. Artwork is hung in the public and is susceptible to weather damage, graffiti or other damage.
- My name, mural title, image of mural and participation may be included on City of Virginia Beach, ViBe Creative District and Virginia MOCA: websites and promotional tools (including print, video, social media) with or without a credit line.
- My mural will remain hung in place as long as the materials hold up against elements, artwork is clearly visible and in conjunction with the adjacent fence murals. I understand that VIBE may remove any mural at any time for any reason it deems necessary and that I am not guaranteed to get it back.
- Murals are intended to be on public display for 1 year, then rotated out to provide new space for artists.
